Zed's Repose
Overview
A three-bedroom upcountry residence set on two acres of working land, drawing direct inspiration from Villa Mare while scaling up to suit a more expansive site and lifestyle. The design carries forward the warm, resort-like character, natural materials, generous light, and a relaxed indoor-outdoor rhythm, while introducing a terrace that bridges the lounge and one of the bedrooms, extending the living space outward into the landscape. The home accommodates three bedrooms, a prayer room, a detached servants' quarter, and an external kitchen, alongside a caretaker's house positioned separately on the property. A long driveway approaches the residence through a landscaped lawn, while the remainder of the two-acre parcel is given over to farmland and a dedicated section for livestock and poultry, allowing the home to sit comfortably within a working, self-sufficient homestead rather than a purely residential plot.

The Story
The client admired Villa Mare, and wanted a home that carried its spirit forward. The same warmth and coastal-inspired ease, but adapted to a larger upcountry setting with room to grow. The brief called for a slightly larger footprint, an added terrace connecting the lounge and a bedroom, and a plan that could sit comfortably within a working two-acre homestead rather than a compact urban plot. With that much land available, the opportunity was to design a home that felt appropriately scaled to its site without overreaching it; three bedrooms and supporting spaces were enough for the family's day-to-day life, while the surrounding acreage was zoned deliberately: a landscaped lawn and driveway framing the arrival experience, a separate caretaker's house for on-site support, and dedicated areas for farmland and livestock. The result is a home that references a project the client already loved, reinterpreted at a scale that fits both their land and the rhythm of upcountry living.
