His & His Other one

Overview

A contemporary dual-residence bringing together a main and guest house within a single architectural composition. Sweeping rooflines, natural stone, warm timber and extensive glazing create a strong relationship between the buildings and surrounding landscape. A central sheltered arrival space dividing circulation naturally between the two homes, allowing guests complete independence while maintaining a close connection to the family residence. Generous glazing, high volumes and deep roof overhangs create bright interiors, shaded outdoor living areas and a relaxed indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

The Story

The project explores how a family home can accommodate both privacy and hospitality without treating the guest house as an afterthought. The main residence and guest house were therefore designed simultaneously, sharing the same roof language, materials and landscaping while operating independently. At the centre, the entrance becomes the project's organising moment: turn one way toward the family home or the other toward the private guest residence. The distinctive flowing roof responds to the spaces beneath it, generating changing internal volumes and generous sheltered verandas while visually tying the development together. Natural stone gives the house permanence, timber brings warmth, and large areas of glazing connect everyday living to the garden. The result is a home designed not around a fixed idea of family, but around how families actually evolve; children grow, relatives visit, parents stay longer and spaces need to adapt. That adaptability is what gives the project its identity.
